Joys of single-glazing

Here we go again. For the first time this autumn, last night I had to put on a fleece jumper to be warm enough to sleep in my bed.

Apparently more people die from the winter cold in Scotland than in Siberia. Seems to me that's it rather more due to stupidity... This BBC piece even drafts in a Professor Keatinge, 'an expert', to advise that people should dress warmly and heat their houses in the winter.

And while I'm at it, could I just quickly complain about the piss-poor lights in Edinburgh? I'm pretty sure there's been dark winter evenings here before, but still there's no proper lighting in the streets and especially parks.

It's like the whole country believes that any day now it will become part of the Mediterranean, and so it would be silly to go into any trouble over adapting to these temporary cold and dark conditions.

Good luck Eric (the poor boy's in the flooded Easter Ross, in a house that has no heating)!
